About Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Sahib, Farooqabad, Pakistan
Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Sahib – A Sacred Sikh Heritage Site in Pakistan
Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Sahib, located near Farooqabad in Sheikhupura District, Punjab, Pakistan, is one of the important historic Sikh Gurdwaras associated with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru.
The shrine is traditionally connected with the famous Sacha Sauda, or “True Bargain,” an episode from Guru Nanak Dev Ji's early life. According to the traditional account, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was given money by his father, Mehta Kalu Ji, and instructed to use it for a profitable business transaction. During the journey, Guru Nanak encountered people in need and chose to use the money to provide food rather than pursue a conventional commercial profit. The episode became known as the Sacha Sauda — the True Bargain.
The story has become an important illustration of Sikh values including compassion, sharing, selfless service and concern for humanity.
Today, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Sahib remains an important destination for Sikh pilgrims visiting Pakistan. The Government of Pakistan's tourism portal describes the shrine as a historic Sikh site associated with significant events in Sikh history, while ETPB lists it among the country's functional Gurdwaras.
